Every bill in the State Net is categorize by a different Status type based a combination of the legislative session rules in place for each state. This categorization is unique to State Net, it does not originate from the state, and it is enhanced information added by our in-house content team.
The Status Filters can be helpful in filtering your report to only look at various stages of a bill in its life-cycle. For example, towards the end of the legislative session, some bills are dead while others are still alive. Using the "Pending" disposition will allow you to limit your search to just those bills that are still legislatively alive.
The following Status Filters allow you to refine your results down to the legislative disposition of a bill as reported by the state:
Pending: All measure that are still active including bills that have been sent to the executive (i.e. to governor). Carryover measures are excluded from this filter.
Failed: All measure that have failed including vetoed measures, bills that died during the legislative sessions, and measures that died when the legislature adjourned sine die
Carryover: For states with two year sessions, bills can be carried from the first year of the session to the second. For example California has a two year legislative session so a bill that is introduced in the 2023 part of the session and does not pass by the time the 2023 portion of the session adjourns, the same bill can be taken up in the 2024 part of the two year session. When the legislature adjourns in the first year we will assign a “carryover” disposition and the measure will become “pending” again when session reconvenes
Enacted: Any measure that has received a executive’s signature or become law without an executive signature.
Scheduled for Hearing: legislation that is scheduled for an upcoming hearing
